Stainless Steel vs Aluminium Pressure Cookers

If you ask me which is the best material to cook with. I vote for Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker without second thought due to its health benefits compare to aluminium.

In terms of safety, again stainless steel is best. Stainless Steel has to be heated much more when compared to aluminium to become soften.

Because of that, stainless steel can withstand more pressure than aluminium pressure cooker which is makes more secure.

But in terms of saving energy (Electricity or LPG), aluminium is best. Higher heat conductivity of aluminium saves some fuel.

Also aluminium pressure cookers cost less compare steel cookers.

If saving some money is you preference, you can choose Anodized Aluminium Pressure Cookers over stainless steel.

If you are health conscious and safety is your first preference, go for stainless steel pressure cooker.

If you are looking for a cheap pressure cooker and also want save money on fuel as well, you may choose aluminium cooker.

Hard Anodised Pressure Cooker vs Stainless Steel

Hard Anodised Pressure Cooker is lightweight and longer life than pure aluminium cooker.

Stainless steel cooker is better life compare to anodised pressure cooker.

Anodized cooker is nothing but an aluminium material. After processing it with some chemical process, the anodized aluminium vessels are made. After using anodised vessels for few years, the coating may wear off which exposes the aluminium material.

Hence, Stainless steel pressure cooker is the best choice in terms of health, safety & durability. Only thing is it bit costly compare to aluminium or anodised aluminium.

Inner Lid vs Outer Lid Pressure Cooker

You came across these terms throughout this post.

Pressure cooker Lid comes in 2 forms. One is inner lid type and another is outer lid type.

Inner Lid Pressure Cooker comes with the lid inside the container, where as, Outer Lid Pressure Cooker comes with the lid outside the cooker.

It’s that simple.

How to Use a Pressure Cooker:

If you new kitchen or pressure cooker, let me tell how to use a pressure cooker.

  1. Add Grains or Pulses, Spices & Water in cooker upto half of the container. If you overfill the pressure cooker with the ingredients, it will create a hazard or the food may get spoiled.
  2. Close the lid, and ensure that valve is placed correctly.
  3. Then turn on the flame or induction, as the case may be, and wait for whistles.
  4. You need to know how many whistles are required for the recipe in pressure cooker. After you hear the required number of whistles, you can switch off the flame.
  5. Then wait for few minutes and then only open the lid. Don’t open the immediately after switching off the flame.

One disadvantage of cooking with a pressure cooker is you can’t inspect, taste, or adjust the food along the way. That’s why it’s essential to follow a recipe with accurate measurements.
